Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 30 m tall and 71 cm dbh. Stipules dropped early.
Leaves opposite, compound, leaflets penni-veined, glabrous, toothed margin.
Flowers ca. 3 mm diameter, white-yellow-purple, placed in panicles. Fruits ca.
14 mm diameter, purple, berries.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and sub-montane forests up to 1700
m altitude. Usually on alluvial sites and along rivers and streams. On sandy to
clay soils, and on limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a
pre-disturbance remnant.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Borneo (Sarawak,
Sabah, West- and East-Kalimantan), Philippines, Celebes, Moluccas.
Local names
Borneo: Entrang, Maba, taie beruk, Tait berak, Tapong-tapong.
