Understorey tree up to 19 m tall and 23 cm dbh. Stipules up to ca. 10 mm long, dropped early. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 7 mm diameter, white-yellowish, with short corolla tube, flowers placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 8 mm diameter, pinkish-red, berries.

In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and coastal forests up to 300 m altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges, but also on alluvial sites and along rivers and streams. On clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, South- and East-Kalimantan).
