Xanthophyllum borneense Miq., Ann. Mus. Bot. Lugd. Bat. 1 (1864)
Latin for 'from Borneo'.

Description
Shrub up to 9 m tall and 15 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate,
simple, penni-veined, glabrous, sometimes whitish below. Flowers ca. 20 mm
diameter, orange, placed in unbranched inflorescenes. Fruits ca. 15 mm diameter,
green-whitish, drupes. Seed with aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forest up to 200 m altitude. On hillsides
on poor soils including ultrabasic. In secondary forests usually present as a
pre-disturbance remnant.
Distribution
Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, East-Kalimantan).
