Memecylon calyptratum Bremer, Opera Bot. 69 (1983)

Latin for 'enwrapped'.

Understorey tree up to 19 m tall and 32 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, tertiary venation vaint, glabrous. Flowers ca. 4.5 mm diameter, white-bluish, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 15 mm long, blue, berries.

In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1700 m altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, East-Kalimantan).
