Mallotus wrayi King ex Hook.f.

Small trees up to ca. 22 m tall and 25 cm dbh, reproductive from 1 m tall and 1 cm dbh. Twigs solid, glabrous to hairy (short simple, tufted to stellate hairs). Stipules ovate to narrowly ovate, early-caducous to semi-persistent, erect, 4-7 mm long by 1.5-4 mm wide. Petioles glabrous to hairy, opposite petioles differing in length, short petioles up to ca. 7 cm long, long petioles up to ca. 9 cm long. Leaves opposite, opposite leaves differing in size only, elliptic, 8.5-31 cm long by 2-15 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.93-4.25; secondary veins 5-10, not ending in the margin (looping); leaf base obtuse to attenuate; leaf margin with glands, sometimes serrate; leaf upper surface glabrous, with 2 basal nectary glands on secondary veins, directly next to petiole insertion, sometimes with apical nectary glands; leaf lower surface glabrous to sparsely hairy on veins, not to sparsely to numerously gland dotted, hair tuft domatia in axils of secondary veins present or absent. Staminate inflorescences not branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with entire margin. Pistillate inflorescences not branched; fruits 14-17 mm wide, 3-locular, with many long spines.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 1500 m altitude. A shade tolerant forest understorey species, mostly found in primary and closed secondary forests.

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. In Borneo collected throughout the island.
