Mallotus repandus (Willd.) Műll.Arg.

Climbing shrub up to ca. 10 m tall and 20 cm dbh, reproductive from 2 m tall. Twigs solid, often with long stiff spines, densely hairy (short, brownish, simple, tufted and stellate hairs). Stipules triangular, semi-persistent, erect, 0.5-1 mm long by ca. 0.5 mm wide. Petioles densely hairy, up to ca. 6 cm long. Leaves alternate, ovate, 4.5-10 cm long by 3-9 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.11-1.64; secondary veins 4-5, not ending in the margin (fading); leaf base rounded to obtuse to attenuate; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous to hairy on veins, with 2-8 basal nectary glands on tertiary veins along basal leaf margin, rarely with apical nectary glands; leaf lower surface densely hairy, numerously gland dotted, hair tuft domatia in secondary vein axils present or absent. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with entire margin. Pistillate inflorescences branched, often with large leaf-like bracts; fruits 7-12 mm wide, 2-locular, without spines, golden-yellowish coloured.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 600 m altitude. An early successional species growing mainly in secondary forests and scrub vegetations.

Distribution: From India, Sri Lanka and South China to New Guinea and Australia. In Borneo only known from one collection made in East Kalimantan (Berau district)
