Mallotus muticus (Műll.Arg.) Airy Shaw

Trees up to ca. 35 m tall and 80 cm dbh, reproductive from 6 m tall and 7 cm dbh. Twigs solid, glabrous. Stipules triangular, early-caducous, 1.5-2.5 mm long by 0.5-1 mm wide. Petioles glabrous, up to ca. 12 cm long. Leaves (sub-)opposite to alternate, (sub-)opposite leaves usually differing in size, elliptic to obovate, 17-25 cm long by 6.5-13.5 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.85-3.23; secondary veins 5-10, ending in the margin or not; leaf base obtuse, rarely slightly cordate; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous, numerously gland dotted, with 2-8 basal nectary glands on tertiary veins, apical nectary glands present or absent; leaf lower surface glabrous, densely gland dotted, with hair tuft domatia in axils of secondary veins. Staminate inflorescences not branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with entire margins. Pistillate inflorescences not branched; fruits 11-22 mm diameter, 3-locular, with angular carpels and no spines.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 500 m altitude. A shade-tolerant species, usually growing on swampy sites or along rivers and streams.

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. In Borneo it has been collected throughout the island.
