Macaranga winkleriella Whitmore

Treelet up to ca. 4 m tall and 7 cm dbh, reproductive from 2m tall. Twigs hollow, ant inhabited, glabrous, with small ant openings (ca. 1 mm diameter). Stipules broadly ovate, semi-persistent, recurved to spreading, not surrounding the twigs completely, 5-7 mm long by 4-7 mm wide. Petioles glabrous, up to ca. 24 cm long. Leaves alternate, ovate, peltate, 14-25 cm long by 10-16.5 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.4-1.6; secondary veins 10-11, ending in the margin; leaf base rounded, peltate margin length 2.5-5.7 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous; leaf lower surface glabrous, sparsely to numerously gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences possibly similar to those of Macaranga winkleri. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits 3-4 mm wide, 2-locular, completely gland covered.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 200 m altitude. An early successional species found in disturbed sites in primary forest and in secondary forests. Growing on limestone.

Distribution: Endemic for Borneo, where it is only found in Sarawak.
