Small trees up to ca. 20 m tall and 15 cm dbh, reproductive from 10 m tall and 9 cm dbh. Twigs solid to hollow (depending on ant colonization), densely hairy (short simple hairs), and openings small (ca. 1 mm diameter). Stipules broadly ovate, early-caducous to semi-persistent, erect to spreading, not surrounding the twigs completely, 8-20 mm long by 7-25 mm wide. Petioles densely hairy, up to ca. 35 cm long. Leaves alternate, peltate or not, 3-lobed, 13-30 cm long by 20-35 cm wide, length/width-ratio 0.62-0.86; secondary veins 12-14, ending in the margin or not (looping); central lobes 10-12 cm long by 6-11 cm wide, lateral lobes 7-10.5 cm long; leaf base broadly rounded to cordate (also when peltate), peltate margin length (when present) 1-3 cm; margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous to hairy on veins; leaf lower surface densely hairy, densely gland dotted.
