Macaranga pentaloba S.J. Davies Small tree up to ca. 20 m tall and 30 cm dbh. Twigs solid, hairy (long simple hairs), glaucous. Stipules broadly ovate to oblong, persistent, drying brownish-black on the twigs, erect, up to 13 cm long by 7 cm wide. Petioles hairy, up to ca. 50 cm long. Leaves alternate, peltate, 5-7-lobed, 40-70 cm long by 30-60 cm wide; secondary veins ending in the margin; central lobe 12.5-23 cm long; leaf base broadly rounded to truncate, peltate margin length 5-12 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface sparsely to densely hairy; lower leaf surface densely hairy, densely gland dotted. Inflorescences unknown (possibly similar to Macaranga gigantea). Ecology: Collected around 1500 m altitude. An early succesional tree species on disturbed sites in primary and secondary forest. Distribution: Endemic for Borneo, where it has been collected in Sarawak only. |
