Macaranga hypoleuca (Reichb.f. & Zoll.) Műll.Arg.

Trees up to ca. 40 m tall and 50 cm dbh, reproductive from 4 m tall and 5 cm dbh. Twigs hollow, ant inhabited, glabrous, glaucous, with small ant openings (ca. 1 mm diameter). Stipules triangular to ovate, usually semi-persistent, erect to spreading, not surrounding the twigs, 8-16 mm long by 2-10 mm wide. Petioles glabrous, up to ca. 28 cm long. Leaves alternate, peltate, 3-lobed, 8-22 cm long by 9-32 cm wide, length/width-ratio 0.62-1; secondary veins 10-13, ending in the margin; central lobe 5-15 cm long by 3.5-9.5 cm wide, lateral lobes 5.5-14 cm long; leaf base (rounded to) cordate, peltate margin length 1-3.5 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous; leaf lower surface glabrous, glaucous, sparsely to numerously gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with fimbriate margins. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits 6-8 mm wide, 3-locular; carpel walls with glandular patches.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 1000 m altitude. An early successional tree, found on disturbed sites in primary forest and in secondary forest.

Distribution: Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo. In Borneo it has been collected throughout the island.
