Macaranga glandibracteolata S.J.Davies

Trees up to ca. 30 m tall and 35 cm dbh, reproductive from 8 m tall and 15 cm diameter. Twigs hollow, ant inhabited, glabrous, usually glaucous, with small ant openings (ca. 1 mm diameter). Stipules broadly ovate, early caducous, recurved, clearly not surrounding the twigs completely, 8-10 mm long by 6-9 mm wide. Petioles glabrous to hairy, up to ca. 24 cm long. Leaves alternate, peltate, 3-lobed, 27-42 cm long by 19-35 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.05-1.42; secondary veins 15-16, ending in the margin; central lobe 12-15 cm long by 9.5-16 cm wide, lateral lobes 2.5-5.5 cm long; leaf base broadly rounded, peltate margin length 2-6 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous; leaf lower surface densely hairy, numerously gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with slightly fimbriate margin. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits ca. 10 mm wide, 4-5-locular, glandular patch covering most of the carpel walls.

Ecology: Collected up to ca. 100 m altitude. An early successional tree, found at disturbed sites in primary and in secondary forests.

Distribution: Endemic for Borneo, where it has been collected in Sabah and East Kalimantan.
