Macaranga amissa Airy Shaw

Small tree up to ca. 23 m tall and 20 cm dbh, reproductive from 13 m tall and 15 cm dbh. Twigs solid, glabrous. Stipules ovate, early caducous, 6-13 mm long by 2.5-6 mm wide. Petioles glabrous, up to 11 cm long. Leaves alternate, ovate, in Borneo rarely peltate, 11-17 cm long by 6-13 cm wide, length/width ratio 1.18-1.83, tripliveined; secondary veins 8-9, ending in the margin; leaf base conspicuously cordate, peltate margin length (when present) 0.3-1.7 cm; leaf upper surface glabrous, rarely with 2 basal nectary glands on or next basal veins, some distance from petiole insertion; leaf lower surface glabrous to hairy on veins, sometimes glaucous, densely gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with entire margin. Pistillate inflorescences not branched; fruits 9-10 mm wide, 2-locular.

Ecology: Occurring up to ca. 50 m altitude. Growing in swampy areas in both primary and secondary forest.

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo. In Borneo it has been collected in Brunei, Sabah and South Kalimantan.
