Sub-canopy tree up to 30 m tall and 48 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, whitish below. Flowers ca. 4 mm diameter, white-yellow, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 7 mm long, green, fleshy drupes, infructescence resembling Annonaceae apocarp.

In undisturbed to slightly disturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1400 m altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges with poor sandy soils, but also on clay and limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, East-Kalimantan), Celebes.
