Latin for 'black'.
Description
Upper canopy tree up to 46 m tall and 80 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below, whitish below. Flowers ca. 2 mm
diameter, yellowish, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 12 mm long, blue-purple,
fleshy drupe.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 300 m altitude. Usually on
hillsides with sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a
pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, East-Kalimantan).
Local names
Borneo: Medang.
