Popowia odoardi Diels, Notizbl. Bot. Gart. Berlin-Dahlem 11 (1931)

(Named after Odoardi Beccarii [1843-1920], an Italian botanist)

Description
Understorey tree up to 11 m tall and 12 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy undersurface. Flowers with ca. 4 mm long petals, white-yellow, placed on twigs. Fruitlets ca. 14 mm long, red, placed in apocarp, fruitlets fleshy, 1-seeded.

Ecology
In undisturbed forests up to 530 m altitude. Usually in mixed dipterocarp forest, but also found in keranga forest. Mostly on alluvial sites and river banks, but also on hillsides. Rarely on limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Distribution
Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah and East-Kalimantan).
