Latin for 'tree'.
Description
Understorey tree up to 15 m tall and 15 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 3 mm long,
pointed. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 3 mm
diameter, white, short corolla tube, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 9 mm
diameter, green-whitish, berries.
Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) mixed dipterocarp and swamp
forests up to 900 m altitude. Mostly on hillsides and ridges, but also on
alluvial sites. On clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as
a pre-disturbance remnant.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda islands, Borneo (throughout
the island).
