Description
Shrub up to 9 m tall and 9 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 3 mm long, strongly pointed (needle-like). Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 16 mm diameter, orange-red, with long corolla tube, flowers in panicles. Fruits ca. 9 mm diameter, red-purple, berries.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1400 m altitude. On ridges and along rivers and streams. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, South- and East-Kalimantan).
