Description
Understorey tree up to 13 m tall and 17 cm dbh. Stilt roots. Stipules early
dropped. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, whitish below,
venation looping. Flowers ca. 1 mm diameter, yellowish-red, placed in axillary
groups of racemes. Fruits ca. 16 mm diameter, yellow-pink-red, long stalked
dehiscent capsules.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 400 m altitude. Usually on
hillsides and ridges with clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually
present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-,
Central- and East-Kalimantan).
