Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 26 m tall and 30 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 13 mm long,
asymmetrical, leaf-like. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous.
Flowers ca. 1 mm in diameter, yellowish, placed in racemes. Fruits ca. 16 mm
long, orange-red, dehiscent capsule, seed with orange aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, sub-montane and keranga forests up to 1300
m altitude. Both on alluvial and dry sites (hillsides and ridges). On clay to
sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant
tree.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central- and
East-Kalimantan), Philippines.
